How to Install Compiz-Fusion on Kubuntu

Due to a majour core change since yesterday (6th of August 2007) you can no longer compile the git version of compiz on Ubuntu so you will have to use compiz 0.5.2 with newer versions of everything else, yes you still get the cool plugins and stuff

Howto: Run XGL (nVidia)

Everyone tells me that beryl and compiz users with nvidia cards do not need xgl, but i beg to differ, when xgl is being used there is a massive performance boost to beryl and compiz, the window transitions are smoother and faster, even my 8500GT struggles with just plain X, i don’t know if this is due to the way ubuntu compiles X or the version of X in use but its just too slow, XGL is a lot faster so i use it. XGL+beryl on my old FX5200+ (Athlon XP 2000+) is smoother and faster than plain X on the 8500GT (Athlon X2 5600+). Just try it, you might like it.

Middle Click to Close Tabs in Konqueror

Run this in konsole:

kwriteconfig –file konquerorrc –group “FMSettings” –key MouseMiddleClickClosesTab –type bool true

Thats it, now close any running konqueror windows and run konqueror again, you should now be able to middle click to close tabs, much better than the default behaviour
